"Watch Man: Part I", "I was a drug dealer. I was along the lines of the stereotypical provider you see in old movies and books. I had a pretty successful system. Since most people knew who I was, they discreetly told me when and where the deal would go down during the day, and we would always deal at night. My clients had to learn hand signals that were ever so subtle. If they were too obvious in their attempts, I wouldn't bother with them. They were mostly men, ranging anywhere from ages 17 to 30. I was known as the successful dealer with the most fair deals in all of my neighborhood. Believe it or not, it was quite the feat. My day consisted of staking out in local parks and restaurants, because that was where most of my regulars knew to come. Another shady client made his way out of the crowd to signal to me. He was the only customer I had that day. He told me what time and place with the swift movements of his fingers. It was to go down at around midnight.

We met, ironically, in a back alley and dealt as usual, but this was not a usual run. First of all, I was extremely cold. Although it was night time, it was the middle of spring. There was no way I could be cold for no reason. As my client and I parted ways, I noticed what looked like the silhouette of a giant. Since I couldn't really make out its face, I didn't know what I was dealing with. As far as I knew, he was just some pesky witness to a drug deal. By now my client was gone, probably already taking a hit somewhere in the dark. I decided to approach the shadow. As I made my way down the alley, I was contemplating whether to kill him or pay him off. Then again, this was different. I yelled, 'You did not see anything, you here me?' At this point, I was fulfilling the criminal stereotype flawlessly. Through my intimidation, it remained silent and motionless and did not retreat. I zeroed in on it and began to see what it really was.

It was not a large man, like I thought it was, but a monster. I grew colder as its face began to become recognizable. It grew a menacing smile. It's face resembled that of an old veteran soldier. It had the eyes of a mad man which pierced right through my very being. These red, mystifying eyes, for some strange reason, made me draw closer. The evil smile that grew on its face was perfectly white and seemed to have no flaws, unlike the rest of its body. It did vaguely resemble a human, in that it had two legs and stood upright. However, the bone layout did not mimic that of a human. It was as if its torso was on its body backwards. Its smile grew wider as I grew closer. It seemed to have a dark mist around it that jolted to the movement of its body. It was like I was forced to touch it. I watched reluctantly as my hand grew a mind of its own and reached out. The hand reached through the mist surrounding its body. The moment I came in contact with the beast, a bright white flash that came out of nowhere nearly blinded me in the middle of the night. My vision was frozen for the better half of 30 seconds. Disoriented, I realized the beast was gone. I ran and stumbled down the alleyway, as I felt tears rolling down my face. As I hurried home, I grew afraid of the darkness of night. Although I was in the middle of a large city, the light did not comfort me.

Was I going crazy? As much as I resented the thought, I felt as if I knew this monster well. I felt like I knew where it came from and where it went, but I could not quite wrap my mind around it. When I entered my apartment, I felt comforted and safe once again. I collapsed onto my bed. That experience must have drained me because I fell asleep the moment I hit my solid mattress. I may have been tired, but I did not have a good night's rest. I awoke drenched in sweat and tears. I must have had a terrible nightmare because I was also shaking and shivering. The sweat left me freezing cold. After about 20 minutes of trying to find an explanation for the night before, I got off of the comforter which I had not managed to get inside of and made my way to the only relief of the cold I knew of: my shower. Blind to see how scolding hot my shower can become, I turned the little knob all the way to the left. The highest it would go. I waited 5 minutes and then got in. It took me 5 seconds to warm up and 2 seconds to melt my back off. I hopped out, swearing as I did, and proceeded to turn off the shower and omit it from my day."
